The idea for Boroughs and Bites came about mid pizza bite. I was having lunch with a friend, who was in from New York, and instead of staying in a posh hotel in Zone 1 like she usually does, decided to stay with me in Zone 3.
I promised her that while we may lack the buzz and polish found in Central London, that she didn't have to sacrifice quality of food and drink. I took her to some of my local spots and she was surprised and impressed and we began discussing how there must be SO MANY PLACES like this all over London that no one knows about.
Bingo.
Idea formed.
Plan Concocted.
I would discover them.
Why not? I love food. Really love it. I went on a trip to Penang (Malaysia) alone because I heard it had the best street food in Asia and wanted to see for myself. I lived in Asia for nearly seven years and ate well, either sitting on the stool in the street or at a white clothed table. When I lived in New York, I took my boyfriend on bi-weekly excursions to discover "the best pizza/burger/Indian/steak/sandwich/milkshake/macaroni&cheese/tapas/Mexican in the city." Recently I sat next to a man at a wedding whom I had never met, but who had received my food recommendations in Vietnam and who informed me that I was "famous on that trip" due to my excellent recommendations.
So when I say, I love food, I really do. I love eating it, smelling it, cooking it, reading about it. I don't need it to be beautiful or fancy, I just want it to taste good. To excite me, to make my tastebuds have a party. Food, for me, is one of life's greatest pleasures and even more so, it's meant to be shared and enjoyed with loved ones. Add on that I can be a bit of a social media junkie and we have the trifecta of perfect things for me to take on: eating, socialising, sharing.
So, my mission has started: I've been in touch with my friends all over London, asking them to tell me about-or better yet-TAKE ME-to their favourite neighbourhood spot.
We order food, I take pictures. Sometimes they cringe, sometimes they don't. The restaurant staff and other patrons definitely roll their eyes but that does not deter me. We eat and discuss. I post and share on instagram, twitter, and Facebook.
While not easy as it seems, but it's fun, and I like it.
Tips and recommendations are highly encouraged.
